Iceland Part 1: Reykjavik

It all started with this blog post. I came across it at the beginning of the year, fell in love with the images and had to go to Iceland. At dinner the next day with a few friends, I started talking about Iceland, forwarded them the link and within a couple weeks, we had tickets purchased and were ready to go! We booked the major logistics (car, lodging) through Icelandic Farm Holidays, which I recommend highly. I also recommend traveling with friends who make fabulous films or are a self-proclaimed Fun Captain. In about a week, we drove around the entire island on the famed Ring Road, seeing some of the best of God’s creation. Seriously. It was stunning. We had a lot of fun making a video along the way, and I of course took a gazillion photos. I’m excited to share some of my favorites with you in the next few days.

Our trip began and ended in the capital, Reykjavik. I think we all would have liked to have spent another day here, as it is full of charming homes, quirky stores, and amazing people watching. Two-thirds of the population live here, and with the total population of Iceland being just over 300,000, Reykjavik has more of a small town feel. We tried local seafood (whale – eek!), went to the top of Hallgrímskirkja for great views of the city (and where I made liberal use of the tilt shift) and soaked in the Blue Lagoon.
